Most of us TV folk have caught a vampire movie once or twice in our quest for entertainment with a sci-fi twist. For all the movie viewers, there is a unison that some were downright horrible, but the biggest percentage agrees that they lived up to the expectation, with the anxiety and anticipations for the next one, being hardly containable. Luckily for us Alan Ball has heard our story and thanks to the literal creations of Charlain Harris, a drama series that fulfills all our fascinations with the blood-sucking kind have been made real with the birth of True Blood. The great thing about it being a series is we no longer have to stand the sweet torture of watching a one and a half hour flick and getting nothing the following week to follow up. True Blood promises an episode each week on HBO and that is nothing but good news. The Series revolves around the life of a local waitress by the name Sookie Stackhouse (played by Anna Paquin). She is able to associate with the vampires after a Japanese breakthrough in science two years before resulted in the making of synthetic blood. This invention made it possible for them to finally come out of the coffin life they were forced to live. It also means that humans are no longer a food option since the synthetic blood just about caters for all the vampire thirst cases. They are however feared and regarded as dangerous despite their association with humans. Life is however not so normal as the vampires fight to have their presence acknowledged and their rights granted; something that the anti-vampire organizations are trying so hard to prevent from happening. Sookie, the Louisiana waiter in Bon Temps struggles to fit in, in a world that seems unwilling to accept her. With the ‘curse’ of hearing what people are thinking, she sees no problem in the vampires and humans living together. Things get interesting when she meets Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer), a 173-year old vampire that she finds attractive. Soon she learns how the ups and downs of relationships go as she is sucked into a romance with him. It gets harder with her trying to understand Bill’s motives in the rural town of Bon Temps. What follows is an unpredictable thrill that can best be described by you tuning in. Other characters that add flavor to the plot include Sookie’s best friend Tara (Rutina Wesley) her brother Jason (Ryan Kwanten) that seems not to get enough of women, and of course, her boss Sam (Sam Trammel). The series is still young with the first season having been aired on HBO and the second season in progress at the moment. The series is expected to grow, and with unpredictable plots of what happens next, the audience is growing with every episode. Its good to see a vampire series in production; its obvious we have been missing that ever since the fascination with vampires begun. |
